The Killing of Osama bin Laden

Introduced: May 02 2011

Overwhelming News of the Day: Americans react to the killing of Osama Bin Laden. What happens next? Some say it will cripple Al Qaeda. Others say it will spur new terrorist attacks. What do YOU think?

Will Americans feel more unified and optimistic? Are Muslims angry or relieved?

What does this say about our past or our future relationship with Pakistan that bin Laden was “hiding in plain sight” and we (supposedly) didn’t tell the Pakistanis about this plan?

Bob Woodruff said this was a Bush/Obama victory. During the final months of his term, President Bush  would ask his advisors…”Did we get #1? Did we get #2? What are the plans?” It didn’t happen under President Bush’s watch, but President Obama carried it forward, using drone attacks to “smoke Bin Laden out,” being patient, and then having the nerve to choose the riskier plan, so there would be no doubt Bin Laden had been killed.
